Our vision...

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone who called themselves a Christian actually lived the kind of lives we’ve been called to live in the Word of God?  It would be great!  We know that’s not happening though.  You don’t have to turn on your TV and watch a shady, charismatic, money hungry televangelist to see this.  Just look around you.  There are flocks of ‘followers’ of Jesus who are living their lives far from the shadow and impact of the cross of Christ.

Our desire at The Refuge is to close the gap between the words that roll off our tongues and the way we live our lives.  There should be consistency between the two, often times though we can’t seem to figure out how to practice what we preach.

Each week, we strive to provide a comfortable and non-threatening place where students on the fringes can meet Jesus and fall in love with Him.  We also want to help students who would say they already have a relationship with Christ to fall more deeply in love Him and His word.  Our vision for The Refuge is that God would use this ministry as a catalyst to challenge and equip students on this campus to be passionate followers of Jesus Christ.

We are committed to seeing many lost students come to faith in Jesus.  Our prayer is that each of the 1,300 students stepping foot on our campus will have the opportunity to hear the message of Christ in a way to which he or she can relate, understand, and respond.  Thus, we hope that much of our group will be comprised of students who didn’t know Christ personally before coming to MHC.  And we pray that those who do not embrace Him would have a more accurate view of Jesus and His followers, not seeing them as irrelevant, ignorant, rude, uptight or self-righteous.  Therefore, we will not be satisfied with a marginalized Christian sub-culture but will strive to effectively and pervasively influence both individual students and the campus as a whole.

Of course, entering a relationship with Christ is just the beginning.  We desire an attractive and enjoyable community of believers, comprised of Christians who are gripped with love for God and who are deeply abiding in Him.  We hope to develop in them a desire and ability to study the scriptures, along with a commitment to and understanding of prayer, fellowship, and worship.

Lastly, we want these students to embrace God’s heart for the lost, be trained in ministry skills, and participate in ministry.  But this should not end with their college days.  Our graduates will leave Mars Hill College equipped, ready and willing to serve our Lord in the workplace, as members of local churches, in giving to God’s ministry, and in vocational ministry.  Yes, they will shape the world…to the glory of God!

Certainly, we can accomplish none of this. But God can do all of this through us. As men and women of faith, that is exactly what we’re asking Him to do.
